I recently started a degree with OU and one of the modules suggested that I read at his article about how we manage our reputation online. Please feel free to read and leave any suggestions below.

Are you happy with the results people get back when they Google your name? If not, there are easy ways to monitor and guide what information is published about you online. Two years ago we covered how to have a say in what Google says about you, and more recently, and how to track down anyone online. But a rash of social media sites have arisen that give you more tools to help you manage your online reputation and become more findable. Let’s take a look.

Blog Success!!!!

ShaunParker —  April 18, 2011 — 3 Comments

Over the last few weeks I’ve been spending a little more time working on my site for many reason but really to keep everyone a little more informed about what I’m up to and some thoughts I’ve been having. I’ve seen huge growth in visits to my site and more focused writing thanks to two people.

The first person who’s really been helping me out is John Saddington from Tentblogger.com. This site really is the go to place when you need any advice with writing your blogs, launching a new site, fine tuning your focus for your site, coding or anything you could think of. This site has helped me highlight some areas of my site which i needed to change and as I write I’m a couple hits away from doubling my current record of monthly hits to my blog and I’ve already doubled my subscriptions via RSS feeds and emails. The reason for this is the advice I got in terms of direction of my posts and being consistent with my posts. Before I stumbled across tentblogger.com I would post maybe 3 blogs in a day and nothing else for a week or two. As a result of reading a few blogs from tent blogger I decided to aim for 3-4 blogs a week with them all being on different days. This has really helped with bring more people to the site and it seems easier to create new material.

The other person who’s been a huge help to me in my blog mentor Matt Snider from geekforhim.com. He’s been very helpful in directing my time. Where there’s been times I thought it would be a good idea to do a redesign or change certain things, he’s really helped to keep me focused on my writing and things thats going to make the most difference right now, which has just been posting regularly. You should head over to his blog as he has some very interesting posts too.

So no matter if your a newbie to blogging or a seasoned professional I recommend you head over to tentblogger and geekforhim and see what cool advice you can collect for your blogs and start creating some great material.

Also Jon Jolly should get a mention as he’s helped me out over the years with my writing and recently with the technical side of running my site.

lent recap

ShaunParker —  March 18, 2011 — Leave a comment

I know I made a video and many blogs stating that I would be blogging every day i’m following the ‘Lent Calendar’ from Mars Hill but due to getting married, moving house, getting visa etc etc. Its not been possible.

I HAVE BEEN FOLLOWING THE CALENDAR!!!!

Its been a good 5 days or so since I blogged about the Calendar and while I’ve been doing the calendar I actually felt pretty bad to start with. “Why” I hear you asking. The answer would be because some of the stuff on the calendar I couldn’t really do due to culture things or practical things such as “clear the snow of someone’s driveway”. Here in Colombia there is no snow (not the snow you’d think any way) which obviously makes this one slightly harder to within the first few days I decided to do the task for the day if It was possible and if not do something which has a similar focus.

Lent Day 1 – Ash Cross

ShaunParker —  March 10, 2011 — 1 Comment

Its day one of lent and for the first time in my life I’ve seen a bunch of people walking around the city with black marks on their heads. This has been a very weird thing for me having grown up in a town and never experienced this before. When I got my hands on the calendar I was thinking to myself I would look stupid and would be persecuted for having it (I’d feel more holy if I was).

I was sat on a bus heading into the city when I saw many people with these crosses on their heads and it really got me thinking about the power of the cross. For some people their response will be its just a silly cross what good will it do, but today I was reminded what the cross means.

The cross is the centre of our faith. Jesus died on the cross for us which is the biggest act of love that we will ever experience.

Today God really spoke to me about moving in love. Everything I do should have love at the centre of my action. Its a powerful thought. Lets all try and live our life’s with love at the core.

Come back tomorrow for day 2

Tomorrow is the start of Lent. I woke up this morning a took a few minutes to read my friends blog.  he spoke about his plan for lent and i was very surprised to think its the start of lent tomorrow and i had nothing planned. So here is my plan for this years lent.I will be following a long with Mars Hills lent plan. immediately i wont be giving up things but on each day i will have to do something that will benefit the people around me and would draw me closer to God.  I will blog every day with my experiences of the task some of the tasks will be really fun, but some will be very challenging. I plan to be very honest with my blogs (as i do anyway)

Christmas bug!!!

Shaun Parker —  January 21, 2011 — Leave a comment

As most of you will notice I’ve not had any posts up recently and every year about this time it seems to be the same story. I could blame it on the fact I was in England for Christmas and didn’t have time to sit down and write. I could blame it on since being back from England I’ve been going full steam ahead at gathering everything I need for the wedding but im not going to use them as an excuse. I will promise to get some posts running on here soon. Im also working on the coding of the site too so it should have a little tweek. Don’t worry nothing big and drastic, but just some things which should make the site work a lot smoother. Thanks for your regular support and reading of the blogs. I get blown away at how many of you are interested my my ramblings.

Christians and Tattoos

Shaun Parker —  October 14, 2010 — Leave a comment
Here’s some notes I used for a talk on Tattoos…
There is only one direct mention of tattoos in the bible Leviticus 19:26
Do not cut your bodies for the dead or put tattoo marks on yourselves. I am the Lord – Leviticus 19:26
While we may look at that bit of scripture and believe its very clear, we need to take a look at the scripture in the full context.
The Israelities had just escaped slavery and bondage from the egyptians. This scripture is actually speaking about pagan religious rituals. What was being said is that the Israelities shouldn’t take on the pagan religious rituals. For example When an Egyptian would die the surviving relative would mark (cut) themselves and mark their skin so that they can release something called the life blood and thats what the bible means when it says… Continue Reading…
