I want to be weird!!!

Over the last few weeks you can’t help but hear about Justin Bieber. Let me start off my saying I am in no way a fan or a hatter of Justin Bieber but for a while i’ve been impressed with him being such a good role model to Christian children and teenagers. His music is very clever. I can truly say I don’t like his music but some how it always manages to get stuck in my head. (Just to keep all my respect with everyone who reads this i can truly say i don’t have any Bieber songs on my iPod)

Like I was saying, you can’t help but hear about Bieber in the news at the moment and all these rumors that he got some girl pregnant. Now I want to make it clear, I am in no way going to say if i think it’s true or not and to be honest i’d rather focus on something which i know will be refreshing for a lot of you younger folk out there but hearing these kind of stories from “Christian Celeb” is becoming more common. At the end of last year I was really blessed by a podcast from Mosaic LA. The talk was highlights that we as the Church should be changing our cultures and bring the culture of heaven. The one thing that i walked away from the talk was this….

Churches often replace the experience of planing events and the excitement that comes from it with the real thing. They never get to the place they want to be because the experience of dreaming and talking about stuff seems to be enough for them. Continue Reading…

Christmas bug!!!

As most of you will notice I’ve not had any posts up recently and every year about this time it seems to be the same story. I could blame it on the fact I was in England for Christmas and didn’t have time to sit down and write. I could blame it on since being back from England I’ve been going full steam ahead at gathering everything I need for the wedding but im not going to use them as an excuse. I will promise to get some posts running on here soon. Im also working on the coding of the site too so it should have a little tweek. Don’t worry nothing big and drastic, but just some things which should make the site work a lot smoother. Thanks for your regular support and reading of the blogs. I get blown away at how many of you are interested my my ramblings.

People on the edges!!!

Having lived in a completely different culture for 10 months now, yesterday I found myself really stressing over some of things people do here. Here in Bogota they have something called “transmilenio” which summed up would be the bus equivalent of the London underground or the New York Subway. I have to say I’m impressed with the system here as it seems to be really organized (compared to the other transport options available) which is a real surprise but there are a few flaws which I’m still not sure if its related to the system or if it’s just the people being inconsiderate. Having been in Bogota Colombia for nearly 10 months, I’ve started the count down the day until my trip to England in for Christmas. The last month and a half has been very challenging for many different reasons.  One being that my Church in England has been going through some very difficult times with some key people from the congregation loosing their battles to cancer, the other reason being that I just miss being at home and having all my friends around me. Over the last 10 years I’ve worked with Jon in many ways, in fact my first experience of Jon was when I volunteered at a playscheme when I was 14! 10 years on I’ve been really blessed to have worked alongside him. Over the years I’ve been involved in playschemes, church groups, large events like Spring Harvest, young carers support groups, and the most recent was an internship with Arun Community Church which was in partnership with The Rank Foundation. Christians and Tattoos

Shaun Parker —  October 14, 2010 — Leave a comment
Here’s some notes I used for a talk on Tattoos…
There is only one direct mention of tattoos in the bible Leviticus 19:26
Do not cut your bodies for the dead or put tattoo marks on yourselves. I am the Lord – Leviticus 19:26
While we may look at that bit of scripture and believe its very clear, we need to take a look at the scripture in the full context.
The Israelities had just escaped slavery and bondage from the egyptians. This scripture is actually speaking about pagan religious rituals. What was being said is that the Israelities shouldn’t take on the pagan religious rituals. For example When an Egyptian would die the surviving relative would mark (cut) themselves and mark their skin so that they can release something called the life blood and thats what the bible means when it says… Continue Reading…

This is something i stumbled on when visting http://www.thesimpleway.org/

1-Fast for the 2 billion people who live on less than a dollar a day.
2-Contact your local crisis pregnancy center and invite a pregnant woman to live with your family.
3-Ask your pastor if someone on your church’s sick list would like a visit.
4-Join an open AA meeting and befriend someone there.
5-Adopt a child. Continue Reading…
